Welcome to the Guernsey Youth Theatre 24 hour musical website!
It's a Hard Knock Life....... this year's GYT 24 Hour is Annie, everyone's favourite strawberry blonde little girl!
Audition Night : a small, compact and bijoux amount of people came along to our audition night and sang like larks! Joe took his usual tour around our (very tidy!) tech room to see what works and what doesn't and we have a new techie joining us this year - welcome Scott to the wacky world of a GYT 24 hour! We know we have more people turning up on Friday as they had other things on tonight so more cast and crew photos will be posted here then. See you Friday!
7:30pm Friday : HERE WE GO!!!! We have a sneeky suspicion some of the cast knew what this years production is, and we've decided to find out who let the cat out of the bag!! Everyone is now settling down for a sing song - let the fun begin....
8:30pm : sounds like we almost have a couple of songs down already - they are going full steam ahead. Some of our set people have headed off to a well known homeware shop to get some more bits and pieces. Meanwhile I managed to catch Jason doing some heavy lifting and Mish has a plan (although it does say "posh house - I have no idea!"
9:30pm : first read through is going on and everyone has been given their part or parts. I think everyone is happy. Steve has just had an inspired idea, which I would love to give away but I won't - I'm mean like that :) We would also like to thank Zoe for the amazing cup cakes she made - AMAZING!!!!
10:30pm : read through done and after a quick(ish) break, it's dancing time!! Kate is putting everyone through their paces for Hard Knock Life. Elaine Higgins has turned up to give a hand (I think she's a little upset she couldn't take part this year!) Charlee is keeping it real (pop over the the hourly photo page to see what I'm waffling about... :)
11:30pm : Hard Knock Life dance done in an hour? No problem!! Costumes almost sorted in an hour? No problem!! Set almost finished? You bet ya. Things are going amazingly well. Steve is just about to make us a lovely cup of coffee and it's almost toast time (although we have been generally stuffing our faces since the beginning, but toast at 12 is tradition!)
12:30am : IIIIIITS TOAST TIME!!! A bit like hammer time, but with bread (yep it's getting to that time of the night already!) Act 2 done, and Steve is manning the toaster, it's a 30 minute break (we are too good to them really!) but Laura is on the case getting the cast kitting out in costumes. It's all go at the moment, the studio still looks a little bit like something exploded in there, but I'm sure it will be fab - with Mish on the case, I have no doubt it will be.
1:30am : We started the run through at 12:45am, the set is done before 1am (the quickest yet!), costumes are 99% done (have a look at the hourly page, Reggie is looking lovely(?!) Thanks for the messages we have received so far, they've been printed out and stuck to the wall of fame for all to see. Oh and thanks Janet for the alto jokes, they made me giggle :)
2:30am : The run through is going really well and everyone is looking awake, which is always a bonus!! All is quiet next door as Joe has now gone home for forty winks and Jamie is quietly putting the final touches to the set.
3:30am : Run through finished just before 3am it's now quiet time. This is the time where people huddle together and learn lines and songs and basically chill out for a while. Next time they are up on their feet will be 6:30am ready for breakfast and the traditional morning run. Meanwhile in the office Steve and I are on our second pot of lovely coffee which is going down an absolute treat. I hope everyone out there is sleeping well (not that we are jealous or anything!!)
4:30am : The after show chinese has cropped up again, I'm sure it was this time last year when we had that conversation! The debate at the moment, to set menu or not to set menu. It's a tough decision! Elizabeth and Vicky are sporting some very fetching nightwear, pop on over to the hourly photos to have a look. Steve has also been hard at work with ivy ivy.... it's a long story! Oh and Tom's Top Tip for Tonight is "sleep makes all the difference", full of handy hints....
5:30am : In the last hour we've had Oli commando rolling out of the office into the recycling bin, I've been described as "Bambi on Ice", Steve is suffering from a red left eye due to the "Bambi on Ice incident", Tom has been "Febreezed" and Steve just left the office to the tune of Mission Impossible - bog standard 24 hour really...... oh and Tom's Top Tip No 2 and 3 are "keep shoes on" and "Febreeze not air freshner"
6:30am : It's now light outside which means its wake up from your slumber time (managed to get a quick snap of both Ogiers catching a few zzzs (bless!). We are almost half way there, not too sure where the time has gone if I'm honest but now it's heading towards breakfast, some dancing, some singing and 1 run through and a dress rehearsal and then everyone will be what has been done in a short amount of time.
7:30am : We are at the half way mark!! We all made an executive decison to start the run and breakfast earlier as everyone was starting to flag. So I can announce that the winner of the traditonal run around the building is Oli Ogier. Well done Oli. We've all had toast and tea and frehsen up and the cast started a line jamming session at about 6:45.
8:30am : Line jamming is done. Next on the cards is dancing (I think - I'm losing track!) Only in a 24 hour can you justify eating cupcakes at 8am, we've been up so long it feels like afternoon tea, thinking about it... it's afternoon somewhere in the world so it's perfectly OK to eat them at this time (I think I need a lay down!)
9:30am : Dance rehearsal done. Tom has asked me to mention his and Charlees's "awesome" sheet dance, so there you are, I have.... and I've put a photo up so you can all see how fab it is (play along with it, it makes tired actors happy!). Everyone will be heading next door to complete a full run for the first time on the set and in costume too, it's all started to get a bit real.... 10 hours to go!
10:30am : The run is going amazingly well! What a great team we have, you wouldn't have thought that they have been awake for more than 24 hours with another possible 12 left by the time the show is finished (and of course the important chinese take out afterwards - I know I'm obsessed!!
11:30am : Where is the time going?! We are heading towards lunchtime already!!! Oh my days. I've just sat in for a bit of the 2nd act and have been chuckling alot, great show already guys n gals!
12:30pm : just a quick post as it's lunchtime. Run through complete as it has gone brilliantly. Now for a well earned lunch and feet up!
1:30pm : just 45 minutes for lunch and they head back to the stage for another run. As they are doing brilliantly, there is talk that we could do a final dress rehearsal after this one - it could be a slick show we have tonight - WOOHOO!!!
2:30pm : almost the end of this run and lots of giggles and laughter is going on!
3:30pm : we've had a tea break and huge thanks to the lovely Sam Smith for making me a brew and then it on to final polishing ahead of tonights performance. Can't believe its only 4 hours away!
4:30pm : the Studio clear up is taking place, thanks to Hannah and Sam for taking on this task which we try not to, but normally ends up a bit of a rush at the end of the day. Almost there!!!
5:30pm : its a little sad to think that I've just taken the last cast photo of a 24 hour to be held at Brock Road. I think there could be a tear or two in my eye during the finale!
6:30pm : An hour to go!!!! EEEEEEEK
7:30pm : We made it!!! Thank you so much to everyone that has followed us over the last umpteen years, without the support of you all the GYT 24 Hour would not be the success it is today. This is a bit of a sad day as it is our last 24 hour here at our home at Brock Road - thanks so very much and take care from all past and present cast and crews!
